Subversive Sojourns: Philadelphia
Terms & Conditions
Friday, August 28, 2026 | Effective for all bookings
What this is
This document is the agreement between you, the Sojourner, and The Equity Practice LLC, the host of Subversive Sojourns. By booking a spot at Subversive Sojourns: Philadelphia, you confirm that you have read and accept these terms.
We have written this in plain language because we believe contracts should be readable, not intimidating. If anything here is unclear, please write to alli@theequitypractice.com before booking.
Booking and payment
How payment works
All bookings are processed through Stripe. We accept payment by credit card, by three monthly installments through Stripe or by Klarna financing. Your spot is held the moment your first payment is processed successfully.
Klarna financing
If you choose Klarna, your booking is confirmed once Klarna approves your payment plan. All subsequent payments are between you and Klarna. The Equity Practice receives the full amount from Klarna at the time of approval and is not involved in collecting your installments.
Currency
All prices are in U.S. dollars. International bookings are welcome; your card issuer may charge a foreign transaction fee.
Cancellation policy
We have committed funds to vendors, lodging, and venues months before the Sojourn. The cancellation schedule below reflects when those costs become non-recoverable.
Non-refundable deposit
Twenty-five percent of your booking total is non-refundable from the moment of booking. This covers our irrecoverable costs to vendors and venues.
Twenty-five percent of $1,499 (Local) is $375. Twenty-five percent of $2,199 (Overnight) is $550.
Cancellation schedule
Cancellations must be submitted in writing to alli@theequitypractice.com. The date your written notice is received determines which tier applies.
If you cancel...
You will receive..

30 to 59 days before (June 30 – July 29, 2026)
14 to 29 days before (July 30 – August 14, 2026)
Less than 14 days before (August 15, 2026 or later)
Full refund of any amount paid above the 25% non-refundable deposit
50% refund of total paid
25% refund of total paid
No refund
Waitlist replacement
If you cancel within a refund window above and we successfully fill your spot from the waitlist, we will refund you the difference between what we recover from the replacement Sojourner and your applicable cancellation tier. This refund typically processes within thirty days after the Sojourn.
Transfer to another person
You may transfer your spot to another person with our written approval. The replacement Sojourner must complete a brief intake to ensure the cohort works as a container. Transfers must be requested at least fourteen days before the Sojourn. There is no fee for an approved transfer.
Transfer to a future Sojourn
Instead of canceling, you may transfer your booking to a future Subversive Sojourn within twelve months at seventy-five percent credit of your booking total. The remaining twenty-five percent covers our irrecoverable costs from your original booking. Future Sojourn dates and locations will be announced; we cannot guarantee availability of a specific future Sojourn.
If we cancel the Sojourn
If The Equity Practice cancels the Sojourn for any reason within our control, you will receive a full refund of all amounts paid.
Force majeure, illness, and weather
As a general policy, we do not issue refunds or credits for cancellations due to illness, family emergency, weather events affecting your travel, missed flights, force majeure, or any other circumstance outside our control. Our fixed costs are committed months in advance and cannot be recovered. We strongly recommend travel insurance, which typically covers these situations for about three percent of your total trip cost. Most policies also include event cancellation coverage. Purchase before your booking is fully paid for maximum protection. In exceptional circumstances such as serious illness or the death of an immediate family member, we may at our sole discretion offer a partial refund or a credit toward a future Sojourn. Any such accommodation is offered as a gesture of care, not as an obligation, and does not establish a precedent or create a right to similar treatment in other situations. Requests for exceptional accommodation must be made in writing to alli@theequitypractice.com with appropriate documentation.
What you agree to by attending
Code of conduct
Subversive Sojourns is a cohort experience held in spaces where the history of enslavement, escape, and freedom-building is the material we walk through together. We hold this work with care, and we ask that you do the same. By attending, you agree to:
-
Treat fellow Sojourners with respect, including respect for their privacy, their pace, and their boundaries
-
Treat the venues we visit, the vendors who serve us, and the communities whose history we walk through with respect and curiosity
-
Refrain from disruptive behavior, harassment, or discrimination of any kind
-
Honor the confidentiality of personal stories shared during the Sojourn
The Equity Practice reserves the right to remove any Sojourner whose behavior compromises the safety, dignity, or experience of the group, without refund.
Photography and image consent
A professional photographer will be present during portions of the Sojourn. Images may be used in marketing materials for future Subversive Sojourns, on The Equity Practice website, in social media, and in printed materials. By attending, you consent to being photographed and to the use of your image for these purposes.
If you do not consent to your image being used, please notify Alli at least seven days before the Sojourn so we can communicate this to the photographer and accommodate accordingly.
Recording and social media
You may not record audio, video, or live transmission of facilitated content, presentations, or conversations during the Sojourn. You may take personal photos for your own memory. You may not photograph or post images of other Sojourners on social media or any public platform without their explicit consent. What is shared in the Sojourn stays in the Sojourn unless the speaker explicitly opens it for sharing.
Intellectual property
Anything you create during the Sojourn — your journal entries, your contribution to the collective art project, your reflections — belongs to you. The Equity Practice retains all rights to its proprietary frameworks, written materials, facilitation methods, and original content shared during the Sojourn. The convergence thesis and the Subversive Practice methodology are the intellectual property of The Equity Practice. You are welcome to discuss your experience publicly and to share what you learned, with appropriate attribution.
Dietary and accessibility needs
We will send a dietary and accessibility form twenty-one days before the Sojourn. To ensure proper accommodation, you must submit your form by August 7, 2026. We will do our best to accommodate needs communicated after that date but cannot guarantee fulfillment for late requests. If you have a severe allergy or medical condition that affects your participation, please communicate this at booking so we can plan accordingly.
Travel and accommodations
You are responsible for your own travel to and from Philadelphia. The Equity Practice is not responsible for flight cancellations, weather delays, missed connections, or any other travel disruption. Local Sojourners are responsible for their own lodging. Overnight Sojourners are provided lodging at a designated Airbnb in Old City Philadelphia for the nights of August 27 and 28, 2026; lodging on any other nights is your responsibility.
Health and safety
You are responsible for your own health and safety during the Sojourn. The morning walking tour involves approximately two hours of outdoor walking in late August Philadelphia weather. By attending, you confirm that you are physically able to participate or that you have communicated any necessary accommodations in advance.
We recommend appropriate footwear, sun protection, and hydration.
In the event of a medical emergency, we will assist in calling emergency services but are not responsible for medical costs.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Equity Practice LLC, its founders, employees, contractors, and partners shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your participation in Subversive Sojourns. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for your booking. This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory under which the claim is brought.
Communications
By booking, you agree to receive event-related communications from The Equity Practice at the email address you provide. These include logistics updates, dietary forms, pre-event reading, and post-event follow-ups. You may opt out of marketing communications at any time while continuing to receive event-related communications.

Updates to these terms
These terms may be updated before the Sojourn date. We will notify all booked Sojourners by email if material changes are made. Material changes that disadvantage Sojourners will not be applied retroactively to existing bookings.

Any disputes arising from these terms or from Subversive Sojourns will first be addressed through good-faith communication. If a dispute cannot be resolved through direct conversation, it will be submitted to mediation before any legal action is taken.
