Day 28 of #29LoveLettersToBlackWomen: Niecy Nash-Betts

Niecy Nash-Betts won her first Emmy Award in January and she honored Black women who were unheard and over-policed like Breonna Taylor and Sandra Bland. She also took the time to celebrate herself.

“And you know who I wanna thank? I want to thank ME. For believing in me. And doing what they said I could not do. And I want say to myself in front of all you beautiful people. GO ON WITH YOUR BAD SELF! YOU DID THAT!” You sure did, Niecy!

Thank you for being audacious enough to celebrate yourself. So many of us are told we need to humble ourselves. That we need to take up less space. Put your head down and do your work and the recognition will come. And as Niecy noted in her space Black women are so often unheard and unseen. So celebrating ourselves and our awesomeness is a true act of resistance. More of this from Black women, please! Take up space, y'all! https://buff.ly/48ACIah

This #BlackHistoryMonth, I'm celebrating 29 Black women who have influenced me through the ways they pursue their own liberation. Black women's work is often unrecognized and not cited, and this month I'm determined to pass out a few flowers to Black women. #Day28 #29LoveLettersToBlackWomen #GiveBlackWomenTheirFlowers
